Dead Man’s Curve, Clermont County, Ohio

Dead Man’s Curve is a name reused for bad bends. The one on haunted-road lists in Ohio is the old intersection of Route 125 and Route 222, near Amelia, in Clermont County. The road was part of the Ohio Turnpike from 1831 until the state rebuilt it as a straighter four-lane in 1969.

The accident local tellers use is from October 1969. Five teenagers in a 1968 Impala were killed when a 1969 Roadrunner hit them at high speed. One passenger, named in local accounts as Rick, survived. After that, the story adds a faceless hitchhiker, a driverless Impala, and a ghostly green Roadrunner. The crash is the documented part. The hitchhiker is the legend built on a curve that had already earned its name from earlier wrecks. The intersection is a working road. Stopping in the lane to look for a figure is how these curves stay dangerous.
